EQUIPMENT

The melt shop of Akmetal consists of an 9 ton electric arc furnace and a 3 ton induction furnace. Both furnaces can run simultaneously and supply 12 ton liquid steel.  The electric arc furnace is used to perform all desired metallurgical reactions such as oxygen blowing and carbon injection.

An 8-12 ton Argon Oxygen Decarburiser Converter is currently under construction and will be operational in the second half of 2008. This converter will be used to further eliminate undesired elements in the steel as well as to minimize the dissolved gases such as O, N, H. The melt shop is run by a chemical engineer with 30 years experience assisted by two technicians.
